MapleStory Unleashed

MapleStory Unleashed? More like getting Leashed.

Hi My name is Shiroi. Originally, I intended to use my Blog to help players improve their gameplay on MMO's that I play. But today, I will cut my introduction short and jump straight into reviewing Global MapleStory's(GMS) summer update, the Unleashed patch which thousands of players anticipating.

As we all know, this patch is suppose to be the god awful Unlimited from Korea MapleStory(KMS) that made a lot of their players quit. The players of GMS were told by the GMS staff that we are suppose to be getting a "different" Unlimited. But that's essentially bullshit, Unleashed is in fact Unlimited with irrelevant changes.

There is almost nothing good that came out of this patch, even if there is, everything about the bad just completely outweighs the good. I can't believe how ridiculously stupid a multi billion dollar company can get for not foreseeing whats wrong with the Unlimited patch and proceed to repeat the same stupid mistake they made on all version of MapleStory.



So what's so wrong about this patch?



1. Exp Nerf

Sure that Jester's and Aliens are a bit op'ed when it comes to exp, but did they ever think about how many Link skill character that 1 account actually needs? With Jester and Alien's nerfed exp getting Link skill for new player just got a hell lot more harder. While I do admit that Jester and Alien's exp deserve to be nerf a little, but to be that bad? Come on... The main selling point of MapleStory since BB has always been the wide variety of classes this game has to offer and how reasonably well the game allows player to Lv. By brutally killing the exp, they kill the only spotlight that MapleStory really shines under.


Ok so, sure, getting from Lv 1~110 is a hell lot more difficult but does it get any better from here?


2. No, it doesn't. The killing of party play zone, LKC.

While it is true that LKC has always been overpopulated and a drama filled land. But it is also one of the most powerful tool for the players to actually interact with others for almost their entire journey. This is the only time when a player actually needs a party and will be banding with others for over 50 Lvs here. This is also the first time that supporting role like Bishops and Kanna comes into play and shines the most here.

But nope, they decided to kills this as well. Everybody can now go hide in Evo world and map soloing while playing AntisocialStory. Classes with less offensive capability like Bishop and Kanna can now all rot in a hole.


3. Exp Penalty over Lv 140.

This is nothing but bullshit. Just when you think that killing exp of Jester, Aliens and LKC was bad enough they pull another shenanigans to make your life more difficult. Now penalty strikes any players regardless of their Lv. Leveling in this game just went from bad to Ruthless.

To make matters worse...


4. Reinforce Hyper Skills

They dragged our Reinforce hyper skills from Lv 143, 149 and 155 to 168, 183 and 195 respectively. That being said, almost all our useful Hyper skills from the P-side won't be obtainable until very late into the game. With the exp nerf and the delay on getting the Reinforce, this game became the ultimate test for you perserverance.


And lastly...


5. Boss/Dojo buffed

Whats the difference between Unleashed and Unlimited if they are going to buffed the bosses anyways? Bosses like Empress and Magnus is essentially untouchable by anyone who didn't pay Nexon $10000000000000000. Buffing bosses like them again? What were they thinking? And now even the Dojo? Isn't this exactly what KMS got for Unlimited? Did they not learn from their lesson? What is exactly is the difference between Unleashed and Unlimited? Just a few sloppily made maps and that's all?

I will be honest here, I'd rather not have this stupid update in the first place. ESSENTIALLY, EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PATCH IS BAD.


I have always knew that MapleStory is a pay to win game ever since they introduce cubes but there is always this one thing that makes MapleStory so beautiful and that's how this game change from hellish grindfest into a game that you can spend a reasonable amount to Lv and mess with multiple classes with unique properties. Whelp, that's all gone now.

This game changed from a game that you can enjoy casually while playing with your friends into a game that you need to solo entirely with a brutally scaled exp. When you think that's bad enough, the entire to pay to win situation just doesn't help either.

Despite the fact that MapleStory had always been a pay to win game, I have always seen the leveling speed and the  wide variety of classes to be the tilt against this balance. But with this new summer update, this balance has been completely destroyed. Players will be getting leashed by this poor exp gain, unrewarding hyper skills and bosses that went super saiyan.




My final verdict on MapleStory Leashed update:

This update is basically an evil and ugly inbred step child of MapleStory with all the unnecessary changes that's about to bury MapleStory in bullshit. Of all the things, Nexon screw up the summer update, what can be worst than this? Nexon will be naive enough to think they have room to make retarded mistake like this one and hope to get away with a damage control(i.e RED or whatever). But truth is, this isn't korea. North America is the shore that almost all the gaming company wants to hit and it is no where as forgiving as it is in Korea. The next gen console and some of the hit title will be coming together as competition to the RED this winter. If they screw this one up, I can ascertain them that the next update, RED, would be unable to save MapleStory from its demise.
